Privacy notice

This notice sets out what personal information JLBAR Law Firm collects, why it collects it, how long it is kept, and how to reach the firm about it. It is given under Republic Act No. 10173, the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

What this site collects

This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. It ships no client-side JavaScript, so nothing on a page observes what you do on it. The typefaces are served from this domain rather than from a font service, so loading a page does not disclose your address to a third party in order to render text.

There is no form on this site. Nothing you type into a page reaches the firm, because there is nowhere on a page to type.

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, it receives the technical details a browser sends in order to be served a page: your internet protocol address, the time of the request, the address of the page requested, and your browser's user agent string. Cloudflare processes those to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse, and may set a cookie strictly necessary for that protection.

What the firm collects

The firm collects the information you choose to send it when you make contact by telephone, by email or in person, and the information you provide in the course of a matter it acts on. That may include your name, your contact details, and whatever you describe about your situation.

Do not send documents or details of a matter you consider confidential before the firm has agreed in writing to act for you. Reaching out does not by itself create an attorney-client relationship. This is set out on thecontact page and in the terms of use.

Why it is collected

  • To respond to an enquiry.
  • To decide whether the firm is able to act on a matter.
  • To carry out a matter the firm has been engaged for.
  • To meet obligations the firm is under as a law practice, including obligations of record keeping and obligations imposed by a court, a regulator or by law.

Who it is shared with

The firm does not sell personal information and does not disclose it for anyone else's marketing. It is disclosed only where disclosure is necessary to act on a matter, for example to a court, a government office or a counterparty in the course of that matter, or where the firm is required to disclose it by law. Information covered by attorney-client privilege is handled as privileged.

Your rights under the Act

The Data Privacy Act gives you the following rights.

  • To be informed whether personal information about you is being processed, and why.
  • To be given access to that information and to the details of how it is processed.
  • To have inaccurate or outdated information corrected.
  • To object to processing, and to withdraw consent where processing rests on consent.
  • To have information erased or blocked where the grounds in the Act apply.
  • To obtain a copy of information you provided, in an electronic format.
  • To be indemnified for damage suffered because of inaccurate or unlawfully obtained information.
  • To lodge a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.
